Today I spotted a bumper sticker on a car I was following. It read, WARNING: IN CASE OF RAPTURE THIS VEHICLE WILL BE UNMANNED.
I suppose some people would think it was a lame joke, or even a feeble attempt to profess the driver’s faith. I took it another way. I was pissed and insulted.
To me, this is just one more instance of elitist snobbery from the entitled religious. To me it simply said, LOOK AT ME: I’M BETTER THAN YOU!
It assumes that the driver in the car behind him won’t be joining him when the rapture comes. A fellow traveler on the rapture express wouldn’t need that warning now would they? No, that message is for unbelievers, or even more insulting, for those whose faith is found lacking when the final judgment comes down. How’s that for arrogance? I’M GOING TO HEAVEN AND YOU’RE NOT! Might as well add a few NEENER NEENER NEENERS!
It also assumes that The Rapture is a real thing. (Don’t believe in the rapture? Well, we know all about your kind.) I don’t care if people believe in made-up nonsense. People can believe anything they want. But that doesn’t make them better than anyone else, and whether they meant it that way or not, that was the message I got loud and clear.
So go ahead and be raptured already. And good riddance.
