I don’t support the efforts or way of thinking of Mr. Bundy, his sons, or any of his pathetic supporters.
But perspective, folks, perspective.
Yes, the Bundy’s can be called moochers. Mr. Bundy has not paid required grazing fees for years; he owes the federal government something like $1 million dollars. Yes, that’s a significant amount of money, but compared to the corporate tax moochers in our nation, it’s the smallest of small beer. and it’s hardly worth the Obama administration sending in the FBI, National Guard, etc., to confront Bundy, his blowhard supporters, and end up with federal people shot and killed.
Yesterday one or more of Bundy’s sons and a local blowhard “militia” took over the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in the boonies in Oregon. This is part of a protest regarding two brothers who were convicted (by a jury) of committing arson on federal land back in 2001. They are finally being sent to prison now- I believe it is for five years.
Again, perspective. This protest action, like the Bundy ranch fiasco, is meant to draw attention to and get sympathy for their “cause”— which apparently is their desire to use federally owned lands in any way they want, with no regulation, and at no cost to them.
This is wrong, but it sounds very familiar.
Microsoft Corp., Apple Inc., Google Inc. and five other tech firms now account for more than a fifth of the $2.10 trillion in profits that U.S. companies are holding overseas, according to a Bloomberg News review of the securities filings of 304 corporations. The total amount held outside the U.S. by the companies was up 8 percent from the previous year, though 58 companies reported smaller stockpiles.
The money pileup, reflecting companies’ incentives to park profits in low-tax countries, has drawn the attention of President Barack Obama and U.S. lawmakers, who see a chance to tap the funds for spending programs and to revamp the tax code. That effort is stalled in Washington, and there are few signs that tech companies will bring the profits back to the U.S. until Congress gives them an incentive or a mandate.
So let’s talk about the real moochers in our nation, the real tax evaders and how much this is costing us in lost tax revenue per year— year after year.
