With election time getting closer and closer, I think it might be safe to dismiss the myth of the so-called Liberal Media. The fact that Trump gets more air time than anyone else is sickening and it will be the media’s fault for shoving him down everyone’s throat if he is elected the Republican Candidate. Does the media even understand how much influence they have on the public just by talking about someone so much that the most unqualified person for the job is the only person you’re even aware of? What have American politics come to? It’s astonishing, really. You don’t even hear about the other republican candidates and I almost feel sorry for them.
Almost.
Unfortunately, they all bask in an equal amount of mediocrity and bad ideas.
How crazy would it be if, say, the media over-exposed the candidates who were actually worthy of running for president as much as they get to do Trump? Over exposed is an understatement. Suggesting that the host of Celebrity Apprentice- as well as a noted woman-hating racist bigot- could be our president turns this political system into the biggest joke in the world. I do have a feeling, however, that Bernie (or Hillary) will make this Neanderthal look even more ridiculous one-on-one, if that is what it comes down to.
I’ve been a Bernie supporter since I first saw him in one of Michael Moore’s documentary’s. It might have been Capitalism: A Love Story, but I could be wrong. He was explaining the definition of socialism and what it really means to be a democratic socialist, as he was featured in the film obviously because he is the only self-proclaimed democratic socialist in all of congress. I have friends who, for some reason, told me they were and still are obsessed with moving to Vermont. My only response was to tell them about how my favorite senator despite their lack of interest in politics. Little did I know that shortly after raving about Vermont’s finest representative that he would be attempting to make his way to the White House. I get a text one day before I even find out the news for myself:
“I think that cool old guy you were telling us about is running for president!”
I’m being honest when I say I was a little frustrated with the fact that he decided to run at the same time as Hillary was supposed to be the primary candidate for the democrats, or at least that was what was anticipated by the media before he announced he was running. Bernie is a much better candidate than Hillary, there is no doubt about this. Bernie is a man of the people and I will never have to wonder if he truly cares about his country and the people who live in it. He has core values and beliefs that he has had since day one.
My only problem with this situation is that I really felt as though, at this point in time, unless perhaps Elizabeth Warren was given as much air time as Trump currently receives, that Hillary was and is the only woman who had a real shot at becoming president and I have said for a long time that it is simply just time that America had a woman president. I would think most like-minded individuals would agree with this but I also know how many people like myself also do not like Mrs. Clinton for several very valid reasons. She is a Wall Street democrat and plays politics the same way Bill did which makes it seem as though she flip flops to what is convenient to be in favor of at that particular time. Things like the Keystone pipeline, for example, should have been a “no-brainer”.
I am afraid, however, that woman would be missing an opportunity that will not be given to us again for a very long time after this — to see a woman become president when American Democracy is not even a hundred years old in the sense that we were the last to get the right to vote. It is important for young girls to look and see that kind of representation, knowing that their chances, dreams, or opportunities are no longer limited. It is important for them to know that they can do anything a man can do, despite the fact that we do still in fact live in a man’s world. Moreover, with a woman being elected by the people on a national level, what one must consider is for the world’s most powerful country to be represented by a woman and what that means to everyone who watches that happen. We should be the one’s to set this example for all other countries.
That aside, Bernie Sanders is truly the most authentic candidate to ever throw his or her hat into the race for president. It’s interesting to me because my father is very stuck on the “socialist” label and afraid that this is what is going to hurt him on the national level, if he were to end up being the front-runner for the Dems. I was trying to explain to my dad that it’s the young vote that counts the most and I see young people I would never have expected to mention politics telling me how much they love Bernie and how he inspires them to get up and cast a vote. I was also explaining that I don’t find too many college age people offended with any real socialist ideas, but who knows. Let’s take a poll. I personally find that the older generation is much more afraid of socialism than millennials. It might just be because I live in Connecticut, a very blue state indeed, but I see support for Bernie I simply did not anticipate with Hillary running, too, and it’s heartwarming.
I Feel The Bern...
