It’s interesting to watch the various reactions to terrorism in the world.
Terrorists want to make people afraid. Sometimes it works; most of the time it just pisses people off. Terrorists want people to jump into the bunker mentality...Stay at home and hunker down.
Look at the reaction in Paris after Charlie Hebdo and the most recent attack. They refuse to let anyone scare them away. Even their ministers drive themselves around most of the time.
Now look at the US. After 9/11, the US went on the offensive. But now, with the rhetoric pouring out of the mouths of the Republican candidates, the US is retreating into the bunker. Let’s build walls between us and everyone else. Let’s not allow refugees in because one MIGHT be a terrorist. Let’s arm ourselves. One good man with a gun could have stopped this incident or that incident.
I cry bullshit. If we go into a bunker mentality and withdraw into isolationism, the terrorists win. Yes, we have to be careful and take appropriate measures, but that doesn’t mean running scared either.
Trump has the typical bully mentality; bully where he can then run and hide when he feels he’s overmatched. The other Republican candidate seem to follow that like sheep.
So, which would you rather be, the person that stands up to bullies or the one that runs, hides, and locks their doors and boards up their window. I know which one I want to be.
Just some food for thought.
