As of right now, the Republican Party shares, if not bears alone, responsibility for the threat of illegitimacy of the 2016 presidential election, and with it, the stability of the U.S. Government.
It's time, once and for all, for Speaker Ryan and Mr. McConnell to clear their minds, suck it up, and, finally, lead. It's time, once and for all, to renounce Donald Trump, his angry followers, and his outrageous accusations.
Although Trump may become, as he deserves to be, a lurid footnote to history, his ugly legacy and the sordid roles played by Ryan and McConnell could well be writ large in the first paragraph of the Republican Party's coming obituary: "begun gloriously with Lincoln, ended shamefully with Trump."
