Once again, after reading todays press, I am overwhelmed by how dominant Trump is in the political media. It’s all about Trump, almost every article, every comment. If people talk about Hillary Clinton, it is because Donald Trump said something about her, and so people want to talk about how outrageous (or right on) what he said about her was. The debate was a blessing, because finally people were actually talking about Hillary herself, even if it was about her smile, her shimmy, or her comebacks. But that has been fading away, until today it’s all Trump again.
I propose that any of our media outlets that desire to be worthy of that name resolve periodically to abstain from any mention of Donald Trump at least one day per week. Specifically, I propose the alliterative “Trumpless Tuesday” as a simple unifying concept.
From here until the election, why not postpone any article mentioning Donald Trump that arrives on a Tuesday until at least Wednesday? That is, a media boycott of 24 hours per week of Donald Trump.
This would be a blessing, a balm for our blistered eyes and Trump-weary souls.
If a complaint is voiced that this would be unfair, then go ahead and carve out a similar 24-period during which mention of Hillary Clinton is delayed for a day. Clintonless Thursdays, for example. I don’t think anyone would really notice it very much, since recently to a fairly large extent every day has been nearly Clintonless, but in the interests of fairness and balance, sure.
I predict that those publications’ circulation will increase on Tuesdays, but not only that: nationwide and worldwide ozone levels would undoubtedly be improved by the resulting large collective sigh of relief from the reading and viewing public.
