So I registered at presidentialopenquestions.com and asked this question. I hope we can get a million people or so to vote for the question I submitted. I know dip about social media and youtubing and whatnot, but I think this is a question that, if asked in public, changes a lot of public discussion.
The Question (at presidentialopenquestions.com/...
Will you keep the crackpot militarists out of your administration?
You get 200 characters for setting up the question, so I wrote:
15 years of military aggression and meddling has supercharged the growth of terrorism, led to a million deaths, and made tens of millions refugees living in fear. We paid trillions for this result.
I dunno. There's a hell of a lot that we don't discuss in our Free Press, but the inarguably self-defeating, in fact, suicidal, military aggression we've worked against humanity abroad, with loss of security and rights at home, —is huge. It impacts every other single issue we face in one way or another.
It was C. Wright Mills who wrote over 60 years ago about the birthing Dr Strangelovian tendencies of the day who said it best (https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/C._Wright_Mills):
For the first time in American history, men in authority are talking about an 'emergency' without a foreseeable end,...Such men as these are crackpot realists: in the name of realism they have constructed a paranoid reality all their own.
The crackpot paranoids -- the neocons, the liberal interventionists -- are no longer budding, they pull the strings on our foreign policy. Only widespread suffering, misery, death, and terror can follow.
Maybe if my question can be asked in public, we'd have a "King is Naked" moment in our politics. I hope you will vote for my question being asked of the candidates, and you will do what you can to urge others to vote for it.
Thank you.
