Ash Kalra is running for the California State Assembly District 27, but one would assume he’s running to be our evil overlord. At least that is the conclusion one can reach after seeing the obscene amount of money being thrown against him by special interests. So far, a little over $3 million has been spent against Kalra. It’s worth mentioning that more money has been spent to attack Kalra than against any other candidate running in California.
The top spenders in the anti-Kalra campaign include groups in favor of diverting public school funds into charter schools, Govern California, the Real Estate IE Committee (CA Association of Realtors), and the California Apartment Association IE Committee. The California Farm Bureau hasn’t spent money against Kalra per se, but has spent money in support of his opponent.
At a recent press conference in San Jose, various education representatives spoke in favor of Kalra and against the special interests trying to build charter schools in the region. Public safety was present too speaking against the anti-public safety efforts of his opponent from closing firehouses and cutting police benefits. The speakers were Patrick Chung, vice-president of the San Jose Firefighters; and Paul Kelly, president of the San Jose Police Officers’ Association.
