There is a post today that suggests it’s Hillary’s feminism and her accomplishments that the Right so despises. I maintain that it’s not about Hillary at all.
It’s about the Republican Party’s determination to destroy the Clintons.
The Republican Party feared this moment when the Clintons first arrived on the scene 1991. Post Reagan, they knew that they had no “great communicators” they had no personalities, no charisma, no charm, and most of all, they had no souls. If you're going to sell empty promises, if you’re going to co-opt the Christian faith and hate gays in order to advance your agenda of corporate welfare and tax cuts for the rich, you gotta have personality. Newt Gingrich need not apply.
But the Democrats had it in Bill Clinton - and the Right feared it mightily. So determined were they to negate both Clinton personalities, that they set out to destroy them and everyone/everything in their orbit.
In this presidential campaign it’s easy to understand Republicans’ criticism of Hillary — they've been subjected to unrelenting negativity and character assassination of the Clintons on Fox News and every wingnut radio show. I am distressed when I hear Democrats parroting the same negative characterizations that the “Right-Wing Conspiracy” has been loading the airwaves with for 25 years! We’ve allowed them to win!
I get it — the Bernie campaign naturally mined many of these themes to advance its cause. The one thing Bernie supporters need to understand is how politics works. There’s no in-between; it’s all or nothing. You use the tools you have to achieve that goal. As a populist (applies to Trump too) your main tool is to attack the institution. Those days are over. Now it’s about getting Hillary elected.
Sure, Hillary will be our next president and Republicans will be sadz. They knew that they were ideologically bankrupt since 1964 and it was just a matter of time. What they are angling for is the suppression of turnout. Without turnout we can’t regain majorities in congress and in this era of polarization, even a single seat majority for Republicans stymies our movement.
Do not let them win.
