I honestly don’t even know where to start. So much stupidity, so little space. Pretty much everything you needed to know about VA state Senator Tom Garrett, running for the vacant (R) seat in VA-05 you can learn from his rambling, disconnected debate performance on October 19th. The golden nuggets of dumb just flowed from his mouth like honey every time he made the mistake of opening it.
There is an outstanding recap of his unbridled lunacy in an article on BlueVirginia.us as well as an embed of the actual debate. It is well worth the read, especially if you live in the district but missed the debate. Just a couple of the lowlights of Tom’s night in the spotlight.
Minutes 16:20-18:20: On reducing gun violence, Garrett claims that “the question is fallacious on its face, because homicides and suicides aren’t caused by gun use, they’re caused by people, that’s like saying that home construction is caused by hammer use.” Garrett claims that “no fly no buy” is “one of the most racist policies ever put forward in the United States.”
Please my fellow Kossacks, I beg you. If I ever make a comparison as brainless and nonsensical in one of my diaries, stop reading immediately and head to the comments to whack me over the head with a rhetorical 2X4! I’d deserve it. Here’s another enlightened pronouncement from the “Oracle of Doofi”;
Minutes 1:01:02 – 1:01:42: On American sovereignty, Garrett says it’s the right to “zig when other nations zag,” and “that the laws and circumstances of our nation will be determined by Americans and not by international law nor the United Nations.” I mean, where to even start with this answer? I’m just surprised he didn’t mention “Sharia Law” while he was at it. Ugh.
O.K., that’s enough, you get the picture. He also parroted the “official” Trump line of a “rigged election”, citing dead people on voting rolls. Waiter, check please. But it’s nice to know that Garrett is a solid fiscal conservative. In a REPORT from July, on his campaign expenditures filing, under “Campaign Supplies”, he listed $60 to a nail salon in Richmond. That at least makes perfect sense, since you need good, strong, sharp nails to try to help you dig your dignity out from under 4’ of mud and muck.
Jane Dittmar should be one of the strongest candidates we have to flip this, or any seat. Trump has largely bailed on Virginia, and the RNC is having a hard time supporting their down ballot races, there are too many of them in places that shouldn’t even be competitive. And Jane Dittmar is definitely on the radar. According to DKos elections coverage, Dittmar out raised Garrett in the 3rd quarter, $469,000 to $286,000, and has $241,000 COH as opposed to Garrett’s $212,000. And this is after she has already outraised him by over $600,000, and outspent him by more than $300,000!
The hell with it, I want more. I want Jane Dittmar to cross the finish line like Usain Bolt.
