Polling place opened at 9am. Parking lot completely full — I was worried not being able to find a parking spot, had to wait for someone who just finished voting to leave. Line was long, waited in line for about ½ hour.
I saved SemDem’s excellent voter guide on my cell phone — but we were asked to turn off the cell phones. So I quickly memorized the guide before going in.
There were three clerks checking id. That’s where all the hold up was. I handed one of the clerks my driver’s license. She put it on a scanner trying to use the scan code to read it into the computer but it failed. Then she typed the driver license number into the computer and it worked. I signed my name on the computer and got a printout with my precinct number. With it I went to another line to get my ballot. This one moved more quickly.
It was a paper ballot that you use an ink pen to fill in the ovals. The ballot was double sided and the ink bleeds through. But the scanner read the ballot just fine and I was done.
On to more canvassing next weekend.
