I work in a library in metro Atlanta, south of the city. All the libraries are early voting sites, 7 days a week, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Voting started on October 17, and it has been slammed. Solid lines, all day, every day. And the best part: everyone is cheerfully waiting. There is almost a carnival atmosphere. We are entertaining the kids in the library while parents wait to vote; a diverse group of people are chatting amiably while in line, and the polling workers are diligently moving everyone through. Basically, they are pumped. I would say a majority of the voters are African American, although the community itself is relatively split demographically, but the white voters don’t seem to be too Trumpish. In fact, the cars in the lot have Hillary stickers, and some have both HRC and Bernie!
I’ve been in Georgia awhile, and always vote no matter how depressing the outcome is here. This year I am feeling much, much better about my adopted state.
