Welcome to Connect! Unite! Act!
A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward. |
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, you have something to say. Say anything, it will be well received. Join any of our communities at Daily Kos, just for camaraderie!
What should Hillary's birthday wish be?
As everyone knows, today is Hillary Clinton’s birthday. She’s turning 69, and as a mere youngster of 65 myself, I have to say that I am glad that the President will be older than me once again on January 20, 2017. A tiny bit of equilibrium will return to my life. That young whippersnapper Obama did a pretty good job, but I digress.
Happy Birthday, Hillary! I hope you have a wonderful day! I am sure at some point you will have the opportunity to blow out some candles. But as we all know, you have to make a wish before you blow out your candles. So I was wondering, what will your wish be?
I doubt that you will squander your wish on victory in the election. That seems fairly certain at this point, so just as it is a waste to pay for TV advertising in California, it seems a waste to use your wish on a sure thing.
Maybe you will wish for a Senate majority. That would be helpful. It would guarantee a liberal SCOTUS. But, again, you’ve got a pretty good shot at that without any magical wishes. So the Senate would probably not be your first choice, either.
Making a wish for a House majority makes more sense. So much could be accomplished if Democrats held all three branches for even two years. And it might take a little magic to flip 30 gerrymandered House seats. So that one is a real tempter. But the truth is, you believe that we can do that on our own, too, even though it is hard.
I suspect, knowing you, that you might go one of two directions when it comes down to it. Maybe you will wish that every child who is born can live a full life. That would be very much in character for you. Your love and concern for children has been the central theme of your life. But you’re already working toward that goal and making progress. I know you believe we will get there some day.
However, the other possibility is that you might wish that the deep divisions in this country and around the world could be healed—that we could find our common humanity, that we could accept a pluralistic civilization, and that we could reason together and compromise intelligently. That one, it seems to me, might require the most magic.
Then, again, you might just wish you could kick Donald in the balls. If so, we understand.
What do you think Hillary’s birthday wish should be?
As always, this is an Open Thread!
