I don’t normally make blog entries on DailyKos because frankly I’m just not a very good writer. My family immigrated from the old country when I was a child and we made frequent trips back and forth my entire life. What amazed me about the old country was the millennia of history, the constant discussions of the past and the incredible memory of the people of historic events. I mean, to this day, the church bells in Athens ring a somber tune every May 29 to commemorate the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 to the Turks! Now THAT’s a long-term memory.
What I have noticed in America is the incredible short-term memory of the people, which frankly, I find to be a very positive trait (usually). Americans don’t dwell on the past...they shake it off and forge ahead optimistically into the future, but sometimes to the detriment of the nation. I saw this happen at the 2010 elections. After the disaster that was Bush, after all the disasters of 2008-2009, when Bush and the GOP left this nation in ruins with the unfinished invasion of the wrong country, the financial meltdown, the real estate meltdown, the automotive industry meltdown, the stock market crash — after all these disasters, the GOP won the election of 2010! ...just a year later! In any other country, the party that had left such a mess would’ve been out of power for a generation. But kudos (I guess) to the American people for forgetting and forgiving.
Having said all that, it’s amazing at the short-term memory of Americans just during THIS election cycle. I mean, Trump says one outrageous thing, his poll numbers tank, and then just one week later they go up! I believe we need to constantly remind everyone around us of the outrageousness of this man and constantly bring up his many many infamous quotes. There was a recent article in Marie Claire (UK edition ) that provided a good summary of his quotes here: www.marieclaire.co.uk/… Some even more outrageous comments of his were compiled here socawlege.com/…
We should read them and constantly remind all those around us — especially to the undecided voters of what an unstable man Donald Trump is!
