Donald and Melania Trump sat down for an interview with George Stephanopolous. There were several notable moments during the interview. In one instance, Donald Trump said Melania agreed to give two or three speeches in the coming weeks. She seemed surprised by this information and let out an “Oh?” And then with a totally straight face, they told Stephanopolous that if she were to become the First Lady, her focus would be in teaching children the right way to use social media, i.e. — no bullying. Really. From ABC News:
“I will focus on helping children and women, and also about social media. In this 21st century, what’s going on, it’s very hurtful to children. To some adults as well, but we need to take care of children,” she said.
Trump said children get hurt “by social media” and “we need to teach them how to use it, what is right to say, what is not right to say….because it is very bad out there.”
She said she gives her husband advice on tweets “all the time,” and while Donald Trump has been known to verbal attack his opponents on Twitter, he acknowledges that his wife’s concern about the negative effect of social media is “true.”
“I’ve see so many people hurt so badly,” Donald Trump said. “Not just children, I mean, just people are hurt so badly by new social media. And she feels very strongly about it. She understand it very well.”
Are you done laughing yet? Because the New York Times has been running a list of insults Donald Trump has thrown at various people and organizations since he launched his campaign. They published the list of 282 Trump insults on Twitter. It took two full pages of the newspaper. And that’s just since he launched his campaign. That does not include the notable rude tweets to people like Rosie O’Donnell well before he launched his campaign.
If Melania Trump is serious about teaching children the right way and the wrong way to use social media, she might want to start by teaching her husband a thing or two.
