I joined DailyKos at the height of the Iraq War. I adopted the name Fury because for several years I was in a state of...well, fury, over that war. Over the fact that we invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Over the fact that I was called a communist by many people for being against it. Over the fact that our troops didn’t have enough body armor. Over the fact that thousands of people, both our military members and Iraqi civilians were killed for no reason. Over the fact that friends, family and neighbors waved their flags and put stickers on their cars but did nothing to sacrifice. While the media became cheerleaders for the Bush administration, making them complicit in their war crimes. And over the fact that chicken hawks didn’t have any skin in the game.
Well, at least my friends, family and neighbors paid their taxes I assume. We were at war and “support the troops” was our battle cry. But some of us supported the troops more than others and some of us didn’t support them at all.
Donald Trump cannot be allowed to call himself a “genius” for not paying any taxes while our country was at war. There was a period of time I recall when there were numerous reports in the news about American troops not having enough body armor. You couldn’t have missed that news even if you were living under a rock, or on-high in a gold plated townhouse in the sky. I’m sure even Howard Stern and Sean Hannity were aware of it. How many lost their lives and limbs as a result of having insufficient or non-existent body armor?
Yeah, our troops were asking their families for a unique Christmas gift that year. For only $650 you too could still hope to see your loved one again:

From the above article:
In January 2006, the New York Times cited a secret Pentagon study that found that as many as 80 percent of the Marines killed in Iraq from wounds to the upper body could have survived if they had body armor that reached a soldier's shoulders, sides and torso.
Trump, Christie, Giuliani and that good little liar Kellyanne Conway are now furiously spinning the lie that paying no taxes during a time of war somehow makes Trump a “genius”. What skin did they have in the game? Remember the Iraq War Rudy? You sure talked about it a lot, although in your current state of agitated dementia maybe you don’t remember. But what did you and your family sacrifice?
My son is now a member of our armed forces. I get Joe Biden’s rage. I can assure you that even though he is currently land-based due to his job, the fear of a war sparked by the adolescent reactions of a spoiled 70 year old man keep me up at night. And another thing I can assure you of...due to insufficient funding our troops at home and abroad are being nickled and dimed to death. Salaries are not enough to care for a family, housing allowances are insufficient, so spouses in most cases must work but childcare is practically non-existent. Fees for “this and that” have surprised and disappointed me since he joined. A recent water pipe break, which we assumed would be handled by military housing, has resulted in a $13,000 bill from the insurance company (rental insurance is required, but alas, just like in civilian life, when you need to use it...surprise, surprise! water damage is not covered) So, my husband and I are currently supplementing their income so they can afford childcare for their three children, because my DIL must work as well.
So, if you’re gonna be a cheerleader for immoral, senseless wars, at least have the basic human decency to respect our armed forces and their sacrifices by paying your god damn taxes you A-holes! It’s the least you can do. It’s the patriotic thing to do.
And if not, don’t you dare call yourself a genius for not doing so.
