In a poll released today, Trump’s lead over Clinton in Indiana is down to 5 points (43-38). In a race critical to the Democrats gaining control of the senate, however, Democrat Evan Bayh’s lead is down to one (42-41). www.wthr.com/…
The poll was taken by Public Opinion Strategies who surveyed 600 likely voters in the state from October 3-5. It has a four-point margin of error.
In the last poll, taken Sept. 6-8, Trump led Clinton 43-36 and Bayh led Young 44-40.
Although the races are within the margin of error, Clinton does not need Indiana but the democrats badly need a win in the race for senate and the trend in that race is negative.
The linked article includes a number of bar charts showing demographic comparisons. I note just one: Many people feared that young people would not know Bayh and only older people would hold fond memories of his time as governor and senator. But in fact, he is winning among voters 18-34 and 35-44 (although not by much) but is losing by 12 points among over 65. Those voters also support Trump, however, by 19 points.
Losing this senate race would be a big deal, hurting our chances for control. I have read that the DSCC is spending money. I really hope Clinton shifts some resources to Indiana to try to help with the ground game
