A new poll from Hampton University has Clinton up 12 points in Virginia.
Clinton: 46%
Trump: 34%
Don’t Know/Refused: 20%
That’s a pretty high “don’t know” answer, and it might be, post-debate, that Trump supporters are simply less likely to engage with this pollster. But maybe that, too, indicates a softening of support — an early stage in moving away from a candidate.
Other salient points:
This is a jump of 10% from their last poll.
This is a striking difference from just one month ago where Clinton led Trump by only two points, in what amounted to a statistical dead heat (CPP poll, August 2016 - Clinton 43 percent, Trump 41 percent).
Trump is losing woman 29% to 52%. (AND this is before his most recent nauseating comments broke.)
And it’s almost tied with men.
A final thought: We Democrats — me, too — can get a little nervous and careful. . . . But this is the moment to pursue Republicans doggedly, to shackle them to the anchor they’ve nominated. Let’s go for a landslide.
Nate Silver, by the way, gives this pollster a “B” rating.
