The media narrative this morning is leaning heavily on Trump “dropping out” of the race, of the GOP somehow forcing Trump out.
And at this point, I think we need to seriously ask the question — is there going to be an election on November 8th?
I posit that if Trump is to withdraw from the election, the GOP does not have an infrastructure in place to replace the candidate quickly. The ballots are already printed, and Trump’s delegates are selected. We’re looking at the possibility of immediate court filings by the GOP to stop or otherwise postpone the election, to allow the party to regroup.
I appeal to the more educated amongst us: what are the chances such a court challenge would succeed? No doubt it would rise to the currently deadlocked SCOTUS, and we’ll have a defacto constitutional crisis on our hands, especially, if Trump drops out, and the election proceeds as planned, there won’t be an alternative. They’ll immediately give Hillary the win by default, and as such, she will not be considered ‘legitimate’ by the entire GOP, as opposed to just the fanatical fringe.
This whole thing is somewhat ‘stream of consciousness’, but I am genuinely curious — what do you think would happen? I’m hoping this doesn’t fall into the realm of CT. At this point, I feel this is a possibility worth discussing…
