As of Sunday morning, these Republican senators have rescinded their support for Donald Trump, or called on him to step aside (as if).
- Sen. Kelly Ayotte (NH)
- Sen. Mike Crapo (ID)
- Sen. John Thune (SD)
- Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (WV.)
- Sen. Deb Fischer (NE)
- Sen. Lisa Murkowski (AK)
- Sen. Dan Sullivan (AK)
- Sen. Cory Gardner (CO)
- Sen. John McCain (AZ)
- Sen. Rob Portman (OH)
They belatedly join Republican Sens. Mike Lee (UT), Susan Collins (ME), Mark Kirk (IL), Ben Sasse (NE), and Jeff Flake (AZ). That's 15 Republicans who find Donald Trump unacceptable as a presidential candidate, much less president. And yet they're still holding a Supreme Court seat open for, presumably, him. Fifteen Republicans plus 44 Democrats and two independents equals one senator to spare to overcome a filibuster of President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.
So if you really want to distance yourself from Trump, all you newly-principled Republicans—and if you really want to save Kelly Ayotte's political ass—demand that Mitch McConnell bring you back into session so you can completely denounce Trump and fill this Supreme Court vacancy. Because all your tough talk is empty without action.
Can you chip in $3 to each of these candidates to end Mitch McConnell's Senate leadership?
