Talking Points Memo cites a report at the Daily Beast that Trump & his inner staff are finding it hard to recruit senior officials to run the government’s sprawling intelligence and homeland security bureaucracy:
Team Trump is struggling to fill numerous key slots or even attract many candidates because hundreds have either sworn they’d never work in a Trump administration or have directly turned down requests to join, multiple current and former U.S. officials with direct knowledge of the transition efforts told The Daily Beast.
John Marshall notes:
But it's important to remember: someone will fill those positions. If they can't get trained people they'll get the kind of fringe people who Trump had in his orbit during the campaign. That won't be a good thing. No option here is going to be a good thing. But that will be an especially bad thing.
In one way, it’s funny. But in every other way it’s not. And I suspect this is only the first scene in a very long & dark story.
