On Tuesday, November 15th, join a massive day of action in solidarity with those at Standing Rock, and demand the Federal government and the Army Corps reject the completion of the Dakota Access pipeline.
From my friend Josh Nelson at Credo:
Donald Trump’s presidency will be be a disaster for many of the people and things we care about most – including indigenous rights and the climate. We will fight with everything we’ve got to stop Trump’s dangerous and reckless agenda, but right now we also have to keep the pressure on President Obama to do what’s right while he’s still in office and stop the Dakota Access pipeline.
In recent weeks, nearly 400,000 CREDO members have signed the petition urging President Obama to stop the Dakota Access pipeline, and thousands more have made calls. Now it’s time to disrupt business as usual and take this fight to the next level.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, we’re joining our friends at Indigenous Environmental Network, Honor the Earth, 350 and dozens of other indigenous rights, progressive and environmental groups for a massive #NoDAPL day of action. Thousands of people will join protests across the country to demand that the Army Corps of Engineers stop the Dakota Access pipeline.

The Army Corps fast-tracked the Dakota Access Pipeline without proper consultation, and as a result, bulldozers are approaching Standing Rock as we speak. The pipeline is almost complete. Water protectors are our last line of defense. We must make it clear that we will not sacrifice Indigenous rights, our water, or our climate.
The 1,170-mile Dakota Access pipeline, which is about as long as the Keystone XL, will transport approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil a day, fracked from North Dakota’s oil-rich Bakken Formation, to Illinois.
The pipeline was originally set to cross the Missouri just north of Bismarck, where it would impact white people, and redirected due to possible threats to the city's water supply and instead set to be built on American Indian ancestral and treaty lands.
The pipeline resistance movement led by indigenous leaders is a stand against the on-going genocide of Native peoples. It is yet another example of the way in which Native people are treated as invisible, and pushed to the margins of society.
Indigenous leaders are calling on us to take to the streets and disrupt "business-as-usual." Answer their call by joining us on Tuesday, November 15th for a massive day of action, and demand the Federal government and the Army Corps reject this pipeline. This day of action is one of many calls for solidarity actions targeting not only the Army Corps, but stakeholders at every level -- including the banks who are funding Dakota Access and the companies building the project.
Activism works. Keystone XL was ultimately defeated because of massive public pressure. All of us must fight until native sovereignty is honored, indigenous rights are protected, and our communities, water, and climate matter more than fossil fuel profits.
This is a movement-led day of action, taking leadership from indigenous groups active in the Standing Rock struggle including Indigenous Environmental Network and Honor the Earth. We encourage local action organizers to reach out to indigenous and frontline leaders in your community and work together in planning and organizing, reflecting that this moment is about social, climate, environmental, and economic justice - with a centering of indigenous rights and de-colonization. Participating groups include:
- Indigenous Environmental Network (IEN)
- Honor the Earth
- 350.org
- National Nurses United
- Hip Hop Caucus
- CREDO
- BOLD Alliance
