Sorry for the wall of text coming, but I see all these diaries from Clinton people upset that the Sanders people here are kinda mad. Did you guys watch the election? Do you watch the news? Your candidate lost to Donald Trump, and our complaints about the unfair primaries have been confirmed. Despite EVERY POLL AT EVERY POINT in the primary showing Sanders was the better candidate against Trump, you selfishly and stubbornly treated Clinton as the anointed one, fairness be damned. We were publicly and repeatedly scolded by none other than kos for our Sanders support. You didn’t care first and foremost about beating Trump. You just cared about Clinton winning, even by cheating. Has Brazile been removed from the DNC? Have Clinton or Brazile been called to account? Have there been ANY apologies?
We told you this would happen, and we were right. Clinton is one of the most hated people in the country. She doesn’t resonate with rust-belt blue collar workers. She is the dictionary definition of establishment. Yeah, we voted for her in the general, and I even burned some bridges with family and friends with my full-throated endorsements and pleas for everyone to vote for her on Facebook and elsewhere in the weeks before the election. Even Sanders traversed the country on her behalf. Because, obviously we couldn’t have Trump win. That would be a disaster. But the whole time, we felt a couple of conflicting feelings, first, that we weren’t treated right by our own party, and second, that she was going to lose this goddamn election. Then the wikileaks emails started coming, and they confirmed our worst fears about her insider dealings, and revealed her true feelings about us, the Sanders supporters. And, as she started dropping in the polls, that pit in our stomach started to grow bigger. And then election night. She lost. Holy shit.
Now here we are. And we are angry. Not so much that we were cheated out of a possible President Sanders, which is bad, it’s that we have President fucking Trump now.
We have to find a path forward now, and we really have to do it together. But first, there’s some accounting to do. There are some things we need to set straight. This list of people we blame for Trump’s win includes the Clinton-or-bust people here. Do we want an apology? I guess, but if you have to ask for it, it doesn’t really count. And, who cares? It doesn’t really change anything. What do we want? A lot of things. I don’t know how to start that list. From the party, it includes all new DNC leadership. Clean house. It includes a commitment to fair and unbiased primaries among Democratic candidates. And here at kos, well this is where it gets easier. The Clinton brigade lost, and the ramifications could be globally catastrophic. So the last thing we are going to accept here is for them to be telling the Sanders people to shut up already. You’re not in a position to tell us anything. Look what you have done! Take a good long look in the mirror. Own this loss.
In the end, we are family, and we have to move on. We have to come back together. But there are still a LOT of really raw nerves here, and it’s going to take time to yell, emote, and get it all out. And it’s going to take some reckoning, some facing of the music. Because we have a lot to accomplish, and we need to do it together. We can’t do that by denying and compounding the mistakes, injustices, and failures associated with the mad rush to elect Hillary Clinton above all else. It’s a nasty new world out there, and we need better people to lead us in that fight.
