Suppose a geographically large country (maybe China) was taken over by a group that wanted to dismantle all of the social programs enacted over the past 80 years.
A progressive group might want to protest in an effective way, like a work-stoppage strike of several days. But that hurts the strikers directly.
Instead, how about going for the most vulnerable part of the economy: the airlines.
All it would take is about 5,000 people at each of 20 major airports to clog the highway arteries in and out of the airport (think no traffic able to go thru the departure and arrival lanes) to shut down all the passenger traffic. The airlines wouldn’t want to fly a lot of empty, non-revenue airplanes.
