So, Donald Trump has been elected President. And now we’re all supposed to come together and support the new administration. Sorry, not this time. Like millions of others, I watched the campaign from the day this guy floated down the escalator and told us that Mexicans were rapists and murderers and drug dealers, and maybe a few of them are ok. I saw this guy pledge to build a giant wall on the southern border…and then get Mexico to pay for it. But he never told anybody how he’d make them do it. I saw this guy call for a ban on an entire religion from coming to the US. I saw this guy mock a journalist with a disability, and his surrogates claim that he wasn’t doing what everybody saw with their own eyes and heard with their own ears. I watched this guy claim that he couldn’t get a fair trial from an American born judge, because he had Mexican heritage, thereby demonstrating unequivocally his racism. I saw him replace his campaign team with the CEO of Breitbart.com, a notorious website that promotes conspiracy theories from the likes of Alex Jones. I’ve heard him tell us that he knows more about ISIS than the Generals…”believe me”. Oh, of course I’ll believe you Donald. Why wouldn’t I? I’ve heard this guy claim that he’ll release his taxes after the audit is finished, but I never saw anything to prove that he was even under an audit. “Trust me folks”. I’ve seen him describe his attitude toward women. I’ve heard him tell the world how he can grope any woman he wants because he’s a celebrity and he can get away with it. I’ve heard him tell us how he walked into dressing rooms unannounced so that he could inspect the merchandise in the form of young women. Then after 11 women came out and stated that he did exactly the things he claimed to have done, he denied it. So, he’s either a liar who was bragging about his exploits and then claiming it was just “locker room talk”. ( I’ve never been in a locker room where anybody bragged about sexual assault) or he’s a pervert. I guess we should decide which is more acceptable. He’s also accused of having raped a young girl, but who’s listening? She must be lying right? They’re all lying. Trump tells the truth. Like telling us about the thousands and thousands of Muslims dancing in the streets of Jersey City when the Towers fell on 911. It never happened. There is no footage of that ever taking place, and if it had millions of people would have seen it because the news coverage on that day was overwhelming. Any incident like that would have sparked riots in Jersey City. But of course that’s just another example of this persons total lack of responsibility. Just say anything and make sure it’s outrageous. That guarantees media coverage. And that’s advertising that he doesn’t’ have to pay for.
I’ve heard him call for the use of torture and targeting the families of terrorists, ignoring the fact that he’s calling for our military to commit war crimes.
This is the guy that spearheaded the Birther movement and spent years attempting to delegitimize the first African/American president of the United States. This is the guy that is tweeting at 3 in the morning about a former Miss Universe. He’s going to war with a beauty queen during the campaign. This is a guy with such a thin-skin that he can be manipulated simply by criticizing him about anything. This should be a blessing for any of our adversary’s over-sea’s including Putiin. Anybody can tweak him and push him into irrational responses. I’ve heard him incite violence among his followers. I’ve seen him endorsed by the KKK. I’ve watched the entire campaign season and Trump has convinced me of exactly who and what kind of man he is. I want nothing to do with such a person. These are not American values. I’m not willing to accept that racism and bigotry has won over the United States population. The President sets the tone for the country, and Trump has done that before he’s even set foot in the White House. That tone is dissonant. Minorities in this country will feel the effects of a Trump Administration, and it won’t be pretty. Trump will stack the Supreme Court with judges that will do his bidding and with Republicans holding all three branches of government, they’ll be capable of doing everything they’ve always wanted to do without concern that the SCOTUS will block them.
The Generals will also do his bidding and that means carrying out torture and other war crimes. If they refuse, they’ll simply be fired and replaced with those that are more willing and ambitious.
I’ll continue to live in New England which renounced Trump and everything that he stands for. And I’ll hope that the rest of the country comes to its senses but I’m afraid it’s too late for that now. You’ve put the nuclear codes in the hands of an immature megalomaniac. The Republicans have found a way to use Democracy against itself. It will be undone right before our eyes. It’ll be replaced with something more authoritarian and most certainly have a religious tone. Not only will the upheaval of social progress be felt in full force, including the dismantling of Medicare, and Social Security, Planned Parenthood will be abolished, and Roe will be overturned. So will legislation that protects Civil Rights. And this only touches on what we can expect domestically. How we will approach foreign policy is likely to shake the world to its foundations. We already have learned that the Russian government has been in communication with the Trump team during the campaign. They wanted Trump…they got what they wanted. So Russia has meddled in our election and these are the consequences. But hey, there’s Hillary’s emails to deal with right?. American democracy has never faced this kind of internal threat before. And there doesn’t seem to be a mechanism in place to counter it. This story isn’t going to end well.
