Bernie today on The View:
“Here’s what is not acceptable,” Sanders said Monday on “The View.” “This country has struggled too many years to fight against discrimination. And the fight against bigotry and sexism. We are not going to accept a president trying to divide us up. We have little girls, who wear ‘kerchiefs, who now are scared to death that somebody is going to be picking on them. Our enemies are not some Latino guy, some Mexican-American working in a tomato field making $9/hour. Those are not our enemies and I don’t want millions of people being worried today about families being separated. I’ve seen too much of that. We’re going to fight against sexism, racism and xenophobia.”
Raw Story
On working class issues:
“When Mr. Trump says he’s going to be for the working class, you know what, we’ve got to hold him accountable,” Sanders said. “We’re going to list all the things that he said. You want to raise wages? Hey, count me in! We’ve got a starvation wage of $7.25 an hour, let’s raise that wage.”
Bernie in the New York Times Saturday:
In the coming days, I will also provide a series of reforms to reinvigorate the Democratic Party. I believe strongly that the party must break loose from its corporate establishment ties and, once again, become a grass-roots party of working people, the elderly and the poor. We must open the doors of the party to welcome in the idealism and energy of young people and all Americans who are fighting for economic, social, racial and environmental justice. We must have the courage to take on the greed and power of Wall Street, the drug companies, the insurance companies and the fossil fuel industry.
When my presidential campaign came to an end, I pledged to my supporters that the political revolution would continue. And now, more than ever, that must happen. We are the wealthiest nation in the history of the world. When we stand together and don’t let demagogues divide us up by race, gender or national origin, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. We must go forward, not backward.
NY Times: Bernie Sanders: Where the Democrats Go From Here
The outcome Tuesday was terrible. My partner and I were devastated. But small steps forward help.
She and I started making monthly contributions to Our Revolution. We’re not rich. I’m giving $27 a month and she is giving $5. But in a year that is $384 in total. It all adds up. Acting helped lift the depression a little.
Our Revolution will reclaim democracy for the working people of our country by harnessing the transformative energy of the “political revolution.” Through supporting a new generation of progressive leaders, empowering millions to fight for progressive change and elevating the political consciousness, Our Revolution will transform American politics to make our political and economic systems once again responsive to the needs of working families.
Our Revolution has three intertwined goals: to revitalize American democracy, empower progressive leaders and elevate the political consciousness.
Even giving a one time $5 to Our Revolution or NAACP, La Raza, Planned Parenthood or whatever group may make you feel better.
None of us are big enough by ourselves to change what happened. But each of us can do small acts of decency. Wear a safety pin, speak up when you see discrimination.
Contributing to Bernie's group made me feel stronger. It's small, but it felt like I was helping the resistance.
We need to work on a way forward, not just talk about Trump on Daily Kos.
