It sounds like Elizabeth Warren has been “liberated” from the dogmatic DNC message.
The party of the Clintons must undergo massive change.
People who heard Warren’s speech said it had a different feel than usual. “It felt like she’d been rather further liberated. She made no particular effort to be quite as good a soldier,” said one person in the room. “It definitely seemed like a new era, that she was able to really step out more than she’d been able to.”
We failed people in the housing crisis and rewarded the banksters. Why did a company give $225,000 for an hour speech unless it was to be connected with power?
Speaking at the gathering of the Democracy Alliance, she also highlighted Democrats’ inability to help homeowners during the financial crisis, even though banks were bailed out. She blasted the failure to prosecute the bankers, saying that it suggested to working people just whose side the party was on. She also picked up on corporate-friendly trade policies, arguing Democrats were too eager to push deals that hurt the working class.
“That’s where we failed, not in our messaging, but in our ideology,” she said, according to people in the room.
Obama care was an improvement,
“But let’s be honest: It’s not bold. It’s not transformative,” she added.
Are the democrats getting ready to compromise with Trump and continue the corporate coup d’etat? Or are they going to learn from their failure and focus on the people, the country and the party?
And when it came to the 2009 stimulus, she said, Democrats were too quick to compromise with Republicans, who opposed it nearly unanimously, and then did little to put their stamp on it.
“Can anybody name one thing in the stimulus?” she asked.
Elizabeth Warren Gets Real, Dings Obamacare: ‘We Failed Not In Our Messaging But In Our Ideology’: The senator is rapidly emerging as a leader of the opposition.
And another of the many articles that are basically saying, lets not let the Clinton wing of the party white wash what happened in the election and face up to the need for a major overhaul of the party.
In Wake of Trump Victory, Progressives Urge Democratic Party Overhaul What happened last week was 'a repudiation of the American power structure, including the old Democratic Party'
As Hillary Clinton puts partial blame for her electoral defeat on F.B.I. Director James Comey, some progressives are calling for an overhaul of the Democratic Party, with new officials that represent grassroots, not corporate, interests.
On ABC's "This Week" on Sunday, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) said that Comey's renewed investigation "did not help" because "it changed the conversation. The conversation should've been about middle class people. The conversation should've been about how to raise the minimum wage and strengthen Social Security."
Addressing host George Stephanopoulos's comment that "a lot of Democrats complain that that party has been basically hollowed out under President Obama," the Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chair said that what the way to come back is "to have a vision to strengthen the grassroots" and to "make the voters first, not the donors first."
He added that "everything we do should animate and empower them at the grassroots level for working people across this country."
Will the party mobilize to block needed changes and fall further into irrelevance like labor unions?
Thom Hartmann says almost every show that Republicans set out as soon as Obama was elected president to do everything they could to kill his presidency. The democrats are wimps, they did not point this out and make the case about so many bad things that the republicans were doing. They didn’t fight. They went along with them in the great compromise that allowed trivial topics to become the arena of debate but left fundamental issues off to the side, because they agreed on them.
They agreed on spying, enlarging the military, attacking whistle blowers, rewarding banksters, not prosecuting criminal behavior, going along with drug war, expansion of executive power, not addressing income inequality, etc., etc. Being “less bad” was not enough to win the election this time and the lack of fight, say the 2000 stolen election, led to 16 years of not having the aggressive actions on climate change that Al Gore would have started. Why did climate change NOT come up in the presidential debates, the corporate effort that allowed the politicians to choose what to talk about?
The DNC needs nothing short of a major overhaul.
