As I sat over my classic Midwestern Breakfast this morning, it occurred to me. Why not Michael Moore himself as the Democratic nominee? Who better to reform the relationship between the party and the disgruntled rust belt/rural sect of the country while energizing the rest of the infamous “Blue Wall”? We seem to me moving rapidly toward a more “celebritized” era of American politics and the Democrats might be able to capitalize on Moore’s celebrity status while not subjecting themselves to a potential anchor of running a classic, stereotypical Hollywood liberal. Moore, certainly is not viewed as an elite Hollywood type, which could hamper someone like Tom Hanks, who could potentially further alienate the exact demographic dem’s are hoping to excite.
Moore certainly has a handle on the issues, appears to be over the age of 35 :) , and has a long history of actually interacting on the ground with the people of this country. From an electoral college perspective, I think he could bank on the standard set of strongholds ( New York, California etc) while potentially recapturing the upper midwest (Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan). As the country continues to diversify, areas like Florida, Georgia and Texas will continue to become more fertile ground for democrats.
Perhaps this is a crazy notion and maybe there are 1000 reasons that this is a terrible idea for every 1 that appears to make sense, but I feel like its the type of out of the box thinking that might actually gain steam and become a movement.
Finally, if 4 years from now Michael Moore is the President-Elect, who unseated Trump, can you imagine the agony of the other side? Its that kind of vision that keeps me going. This would be serious payback.
