Of course we know this will never happen, but after all the promises and lies Donald Trump has made in his campaign to win the Presidential Election to the Religious Right I know they will be first in line to have their wishes granted!
It’s become apparent to me that the Religious Right would love to Replace the U.S. Constitution with The Bible if there were any way possible. They have been fighting for years against Same Sex Marriage, Abortion and so many other issues.
It seems the GOP/Republican Party is aways talking about “Their Religious Rights” but the fact is we all have the Religious Right to choose any religion we want or to choose no religion at all. That is why the First Amendment was created.
The First Amendment was Created to keep separation of Church and State which is one of the main reasons it needs to be explained to those who truly don’t understand it’s meaning.
Our country's founders-- who were of different religious backgrounds themselves -- knew the best way to protect religious liberty was to keep the government out of religion.
Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education is Betsy DeVos. Betsy DeVos has never attended a public school nor have any or her children. She is in favor of a “Voucher System” which would allow students to go to the school of their choice.
Many Teachers Organizations are and will boycott DeVos as Secretary of Education.”By nominating Betsy DeVos , the Trump administration has demonstrated just how out of touch it is with what works best for students, parents, educators and communities,” National Education Association President Lily Eskelsen Garcia said. The NEA is the nation's largest teachers' union.
The one thing the U.S. Government cannot do is use vouchers for Religious Schools. As stated in the ACLU page explaining Your Rights to Religious Freedom “The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits government from encouraging or promoting ("establishing") religion in any way. That's why we don't have an official religion of the United States. This means that the government may not give financial support to any religion. That's why many school voucher programs violate the Establishment Clause -- because they give taxpayers' money to schools that promote religion.”
Proponents of vouchers are asking Americans to do something contrary to the very ideals upon which this country was founded. Thomas Jefferson, one of the architects of religious freedom in America, said, "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves... is sinful and tyrannical." Yet voucher programs would do just that; they would force citizens — Christians, Jews, Muslims and atheists — to have their tax dollars pay for the religious indoctrination of school children at schools with narrow parochial agendas. In many programs, 80 percent of vouchers would be used in schools whose central mission is religious training.
That’s one of the Wonderful Things about our Constitution- The Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment gives you the right to worship or not as you choose. The government can't penalize you because of your religious beliefs or non-belief.
The United States is a nation of people of all ethnicities from around the Globe! It is also a nation of people of religion and those who practice no religion. That is a right we all have as Americans and the founders definitely knew what they were doing when they made it illegal to involve religion in politics and the laws that govern “All Citizens” of the United States.
Donald Trump ran his campaign reaching out to Evangelical Christians. He will always be remembered for his famous quote “Two Corinthians”…...which explained his thorough knowledge of the bible and his biblical education.
We are a nation of not only Christians but Muslim, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and so many more. There is no one religion that should be called the religion of The United States. We are not forced to worship any religion at all if we choose not too.
I grew up going to church two to three times a week. Growing up in the Bible Belt I never felt accepted by the church in my mind or heart. Being from Texas and being gay Southern Baptist Churches condemned you to Hell. Abortion was another one of the biggest sins you could commit, yet now Pope Francis has given the authority to priests to forgive women who have had abortions if they repented in their hearts. But again, the problem with organized religion is who is the church to condemn and judge women who have had abortions. They do not have that right. One thing that I remembered and learned from the church that I practice to this day is “Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged”.
I think my favorite Amendment will always be The First Amendment. When I hear people saying “That law does not fit my Christian Values” or “That law goes against the bible” I always think of what would happen to those people if they truly believed in the punishments given those in biblical days. An eye for an eye, stoning and death for adultery, stealing or coveting your neighbors spouse.
So many people live lives filled with hypocrisy and judgement for issues they are ignorant about or choose to ignore. Being a part of the LGBTQ Community has taught me so much about acceptance for others and not to judge. Having a sister who had several abortions I know she had her reasons and she does not need to ask for anyone’s forgiveness. Having parents who worked though an affair my mother had when they were young and staying married for 58 years until my mother passed away I know they did the best they could dealing with the struggles so many deal with in a marriage/relationship.
In the end the important thing to remember is that every person on this planet has a choice that is theirs and theirs alone. Throughout history countries have forced one religion on the people of their country. But, that is one of the main reasons that people fled England to America was for Freedom of Religion, which also means the freedom to not choose a religion. This is Our America.
