At this point in the election process people are ready to throw their t.v.’s through the window every time another damn political ad comes on. Believe me, I know. Living in a “battleground” state, with not just the Presidency, but a hot Senate race and two close House races, the airwaves are chock full of the nonsense.
But while people tune out the t.v., they still read newspapers. And Paula Hawks, running for the House in South Dakota just got a nice late boost. An ARTICLE on KDLT.com chronicles her early life and the things that shaped her to get into politics from being a high school teacher. The article does a wonderful job of personalizing her;
"The barn behind me is where I spent a lot of my days checking on pigs, checking on baby pigs,” checking on cattle when they were calving,” she says.
It's also where she learned to value the simple things.
"During the 1980's we experienced that farm crises that was so devastating for South Dakota and my family went bankrupt because of it.”
The article also shows her passion, being a high school teacher who was drawn to run for the state legislature to try to fix the emergency situation the education system was in. And it worked. She got in, went to work, and in this session a bill that increased taxes to get teachers a raise was signed into law.
Her GOP opponent, Kristi Noem has problems, and Paula Hawks is just one of them. Noem is a Trump supporter, and that’s not a comfortable thing to be these days. It really became problematic for Noem a couple of weeks ago, when, in the middle of a debate, Trump’s “locker room talk” comments came up. Noem shunned the comments, but wouldn’t disavow Trump. Whereupon Paula Hawks demolished her on the spot, saying that Paula herself took those statements a little more seriously, having been raped while in college by a man in a position of authority over her. The fact that Noem waited until after the debate to issue a statement expressing sorrow and regret for what happened to Hawks did not make her look very good.
Paula Hawks is working hard to close this deal. Over the last week she has held a series of town halls all over the district, making her closing argument. Being a long time farm girl, her platform is strong on farm and rural issues, and this makes her a natural for the town hall format, where she can talk to farm families on a level playing field, she knows the language. Paula got a break when her opponent refused to sign on for a late debate last week. Noem is probably still licking her wounds from the last one.
Let’s see if we can’t get Paula Hawks across the finish line, and flip another seat on the way to giving Nancy Pelosi the gavel back again. To donate to Paula, go HERE. to pitch in for the last weekend of the fight, click HERE.
Thanks as always for reading, and GO Blue!!!
