Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Our Child, AmERICA
All countries are the children of their citizens. If only all parents were good and never quarreled.
In this sense, America is OUR child. Of course we love her, wish the best for her, hope she grows ever greater, stronger, wiser, more artful in every good endeavor she attempts.
Yet we argue over how she will be raised. We always have. We always will.
We can argue over her raising with love. Or we can do so with disaster. But that is the path of despair, to abuse, to damage, to breaking our child. Let’s not go there.
No parent wants this. We do not want this. And ‘we’ includes those with whom we quarrel, or there is no we. And if there’s no ‘we’ left, so be it. Regardless if we are together or estranged, it is best to parent as an us, because it’s not about us: It’s about the child — and her name is America and we love her.
And America sees everything we do, hears every harsh word, marks every missed kindness and togetherness.
For in our arguments, in the heat of impassioned discourse, we think we’re scoring points. No, we’re not. We’re only abusing our child. And that is not okay.
Sometime soon — perhaps not tomorrow but soon — let’s sit, and talk. We can even speak with raised voices if we must, at first.
But we need to stop fighting as we have before we hurt our child beyond redemption — ours and hers alike.
And in the matter of redemption, it’s about us, too.
(Exhales.) Well, then! I suppose it’s time to get on with the Top Comments…
In Remarkable Scene at Susan B Anthony's Grave, Karen Wehrstein posts my excuse to link this diary #WithHerToo. :)
What jabberwocky said, in this most excellent Hillary News & Views diary.
Props to Connect! Unite! Act! for this solemn offering, titled Who do you vote in memory of or in honor of?, compliments of True Blue Majority.
The comment that drew my notice was this one by jfromga. Here’s the original. This one, though, I’m posting in full:
Everybody, those who came before, who sacrificed and built this country and made my comfortable life possible, those alive now who need a government to protect and aid them, and even those who don’t realize how much that government does for them and attack it, and all those people who don’t live in this country, but who can be helped by a good and fair America and suffer if we aren’t, and the future, all those who deserve to be born into a better world.
Because it is, after, about our children and the children of our detractors, too. It is, after all, about OUR child: America.

In Election Liveblog #4, smileycreek posted a great meme.
From Jon Sitzman:
So Say We All. Actually that reference doesn't apply since it's RA Salvatore speaking instead of Ron D. Moore, but - really, just read it. Almost poetic description of grim truth from one of our quiet, wise members. Very fun author to read, too.
From nicteis:
A masterfully organized round of talking points for those who vote Republican primarily because government is "wasting" their tax dollars, in this comment by Neuroscientist2.
