After this election I have come to realize something. The Democratic Party has an image problem. A lot of everyday, somewhat political people think that the Democratic Party has nothing to offer them. White, blue collar voters have abandoned the Democratic Party, en masse. Younger voters aren’t helping us up and down the ticket. Minority voters seem to see some fierce urgency, but are not coming out in greater numbers than in 2012. You could say that this is all do to a fiercely unpopular general election candidate, Hillary Clinton, but then what is there to explain the Senate and the House? Here’s the answer. The Democratic Party is a party full of poor and middle class voters, while the Democrats are being representative by a series of increasingly richer and richer, older and older representatives.
Look at the exit polls….our candidates are not inspiring the Democratic voters they’re supposed to represent to vote…
Patrick Murphy in Florida — Former Republican
Evan Bayh — Big Corporate Lobbyist
Ted Strickland — 75 year old governor who inspired few
none of them were close...and yet that’s the best we can do?
We had plenty of inspiring, smart candidates, women and men who represent our diverse party, why is it so hard to get people who look like us nominated. We're not a party of old rich white poeple, and yet that’s who only seems to represent us. Why don’t we have more black candidates in the South? Where are our latino brothers and sisters in the west? What about atheist and younger candidates? We need to kick the doors open and start seeing more representation in our elected officials.
Let’s get back to Nancy and Chuck. They’re both good people. They’re good Democrats. But I look at them, and I look at the Democratic Party, and they are not aligned to the current values of the Democratic Party.
— We want Healthcare for all, both of them didn’t even allow a public option to be brought up for a vote
— Both of them are big, rich, urban liberals who have been in leadership positions while the Democratic Party in congress has evaporated.
— Neither has had a consistent or great outreach plan to the rural part of the country.
— Both have never been willing to fight and use the same techniques Republicans have used successfully to block government.
— They have been around a long time and don’t truly represent the needs or demographics of the current Democratic party.
I doubt this diary will have any impact on who gets picked, but I hope that you will think about calling your representative and making sure they know you’re sick of the out-of-touch members who don’t represent the values of the Democratic Party.
Oh one more thing...as shitty as it was for Clinton to lose, I am glad the Clinton dynasty is now fully divorced from the Democratic Party...I feel like they were not good for us as a party.
