Just today I was admonished to get over my hate and anger. This person suggested that I "do my part" to "Make America Great Again". I have never understood this slogan. The US is already great, so Trump's work is already done for him. Who did this? Regular people helping each other. Regular people making sure we are all safe. Regular people taking care of their families. So, what next? Does this become the new form of being "un-American" if you are not "doing your part to make America great again?" Is this the new litmus test for being allowed to stay in-country? The modern version of being accused of being a "pinko?"
And...
Oh yeah, hate and anger. On this one, I am ready when the Trump supporters are. This one, I lay at their feet. They brought this on. The KKK is marching. People are scared for their safety and lives. Many of my friends are living in fear - they've told me this. I wish I could hold them safe.
My response is to wear a safety pin as my symbol. (This is not my idea, the FB Pantsuit Nation group brought this up) For the people that I already know who have been marginalized, assaulted, and victimized. For those who are not "traditional" in some way. Not naming names for their safety. These are real people, not fictional characters. These are my friends. For anyone who feels threatened If you need help, I am here. If you see me around, I will be wearing my pin. Come to me. I may not be able to do much, but I will stand with you against the bullies. If nothing else, you won't get beat up alone.
Peace
