Virginia is in a race of its life during this holiday season, and many people may not be aware that it is even happening. Two seats in the state senate and one in the house are up for grabs January 10th. Cheryl Turpin is running for the House of Delegates seat in the 85th District —
Turpin has lived in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach for the past 18 years. Her daughters graduated from Kempsville High School. Turpin taught high school science for 24 years, including Advanced Placement Environmental Science. You could say she has a love for nurturing our state’s future, education, and the environment.
As the country's first election in 2017 this is our best chance to show President-elect Donald Trump and the Republican party that we are fighting back.
The 85th is a toss-up district — Hillary Clinton lost by less than 1% to Trump. Can Turpin’s deep roots in the community switch this red seat blue?
I recently talked to Turpin’s campaign manager, Joe Diver, and this is what he had to say about Cheryl Turpin’s run for the 85th.
KDW: How have you seen people react to Cheryl?
JD: We have received tremendous support throughout the district and the Commonwealth about Cheryl's candidacy for the House of Delegates. People respond most to Cheryl's passion for education and the environment and understand that we need to send an educator to Richmond to reform our education system.
KDW: What do you most need from people wanting to volunteer? If they are not in her area how can they help?
JD: This election is going to come down to turn out. Right now, we have volunteers all around the country calling voters in the district reminding them of the special election. What we need most are volunteers phone calling and knocking doors reminding voters of this special election. Our campaign also needs the resources to run an effective Get Out the Vote program, people can donate to Cheryl
