[UPDATE: I don’t know what the hell to think on this one. At first it sure sounded like it was Trump-as-King (maybe slightly too far Trump-as-Christ) weird worship message. Then I heard from some folk and got the skinny from super-Christiany friends about holiday greetings and of course “da da newborn King.” But hearing Dan Rather and Spicer be sanctimonious to Buzzfeed, I don’t know if they’re playing hardball or what. It is a very weird statement and Reince Priebus has a weird name and is a chickenshit because he did not walk back his new boss’s contention that there were MILLIONS of cases of voter-fraud— which only went to Democrats, natch— which is why the Clown didn’t win the popular vote. Even if they are “innocent” on this one— maybe they are, maybe they aren’t with the Trump-worship/Trump-as-Putin creepy stuff— please do not forget over these next four long years that our immediate opponents (meaning anyone who touched that disgrace of a Presidential campaign) have PROVEN themselves to be lying win-no-matter-what bastards. So take everything they and their maniac boss says with a ginormous grain of salt.]
As I’ve advocated elsewhere, we need to lighten the fuck up and finish grieving and go on the offensive. We’re completely and totally out of power once again so we can shut up people whose ideas don’t work AND also go pedal to the metal and feel like the good guys while doing it.
The GOP released a press statement cosigned by Sharon Day and some object called a Reince Priebus (I think it’s a German cuckoo clock?) that said among other things:
Merry Christmas to all! Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King. We hope Americans celebrating Christmas today will enjoy a day of festivities and a renewed closeness with family and friends.
Do you remember all the sanctimonious bullshit where President Obama was called a tyrant, a king, a dictator, the “Regime” (from Limbaugh), etc etc
Do you remember how that wasn’t really true? The guy was a pretty even-keeled, moderate, revered Abraham Lincoln and the Constitution, etc etc. I remember that. It wasn’t true, but it worked.
Reince Priebus showed us a way out of the rhetorical wilderness. They literally compared Trump to Jesus Christ (or maybe to be VERY charitable to them, some kind of Middle East BC-era king.)
The royalty angle could be fun, but don’t call him a King, don’t call him a dictator, he’s really not hitler, etc.
Let’s call a name-caller-in-chief a name of our own:
Trump is a Princess.
He’s very oversensitive and delicate. Like The Pricess and the Pea, he needs nothing but the finest linens and Slovenians to make him comfortable. He throws temper tantrums on Twitter when his feelings or teeny-tiny ego get hurt.
It’s pretty astonishing how much the GOP has lost their mind (but we’ve seen this completely off-the-rails behavior since like 2005 with them) but they’ve also lost their principles.
