I am sure that there are some who may not understand why there is so much of an uproar here regarding the references to Henry Kissinger in last night’s debate. Therefore I present to you the BBC documentary “The Trials of Henry Kissinger” based on the book by Christopher Hitchens.
There is not much more to say about this, except my own personal feelings that Clinton’s defense of Henry Kissinger’s record disqualifies her as President. I am sure that she was a great Secretary of State by observing his strategic method of pitting China and the USSR against each other during the Cold War.
But… his theories of power for power’s sake without balancing the suffering and long term cost of the accumulation and use of that power is what makes him a vile individual. That Clinton chose to call him a mentor and a friend… even defending him… means I have to question what kind of decisions she would make when she does not have a check against the use of our incredible military power. It makes me, as a Buddhist, morally unable to support or vote for her, because doing so would make me knowingly culpable to any suffering that she caused.
It would be as if I had harmed the world.
Edit:
Thanks for the recommendations… as I said in the comments I asked both campaigns on Twitter if they would extradite Henry Kissinger for war crimes and crimes against humanity, with the hashtag #IWouldExtraditeKissinger
Of course I am just one person stirring the pot and giving this subject visibility. All of us together, we all can have an impact.
