I’m just catching up with what apparently went on early this morning with a now-removed diary saying that Sanders supporters were not welcome at Reverend Barber’s 10th Annual Moral Mondays march in South Carolina today. I have to admit, I don’t understand why someone would even post something like that, but it sowed confusion and mistrust between groups that should be allies.
People here have been understandably outraged, and the staff did in the end remove the diary, but not before it hit the Most Shared list and reddit. The Moral Monday movement and Reverend Barber did not deserve this, and who knows how and whether it might have harmed that movement.
In a comment, Fish Out of Water stated:
What we can do now if we haven’t done it already is join the NAACP. Rev. Barber has reignited the fire in the NAACP. The NAACP is fighting hard for everyone’s right to vote and they deserve our support and involvement.
I wholeheartedly agree, and I immediately made a donation to the NAACP. I’d like to challenge/encourage as many of us as possible to donate to or join the NAACP. This might help in repairing the relationship between Daily Kos and Reverend Barber. Plus, it’s the right thing to do, given the on-going attacks on the voting rights of blacks and the poor.
I’d love to see how many pick up the banner on this, and whether we can make a positive impact on Moral Mondays, even if we can’t be there !!!
Once again, here’s the link to DONATE TO OR JOIN THE NAACP!! Let’s do it!!
Or if you prefer to donate to the North Carolina branch directly, go to https://naacpnc.nationbuilder.com/donate
By the way, a diary for checking in to the march as it happens/happened is here:
