Don Siegelman was a popular Alabama governor, wrongfully prosecuted and now a federal inmate. Legal scholars unanimously declared he is not guilty. In 2006 Siegelman was convicted on felony corruption charges and sentenced to seven years in prison. Over 100 former Attorneys General, both Democrat and Republican, have contended that he was wrongfully prosecuted.
Siegelman served as Alabama Secretary of State, 1979 to 1987, state Attorney General, 1987 to 1991, Lieutenant Governor, 1995 to 1999 and Alabama Governor, 1999 to 2003.
