Secretary Clinton has a history as a political public figure of making unforced errors that damage her reputation and her chances at winning elections. Yesterday, in an interview with Scott Pelley of CBS News, she tripped herself up yet again. The interview negatively impacts her campaign because it feeds the narrative that she is untrustworthy and too often does not tell the truth to the American people.
Secretary Clinton supporters say she has more experience and is more electable than Senator Sanders. But, the campaign for President is just that , a campaign, and Senator Sanders actually has more experience running ( and winning) campaigns than she does.
We all realize that candidates during the campaign have many opportunities to go on the record. They will make mistakes. Some statements will be spun to make a mountain out of a mole hill. But this interview is not a speed bump, small glitch or inartful phrasing. It is a major error.
Stephen Colbert led his show last night with the relevant portion of the interview. It is a brutal takedown of a candidate using her own words.
relevant portions are 1:57 thru 4:20
