We are all already well-versed on the GOP’s loudly-stated plan to oppose anything Obama intends to do with regards to filling the vacancy left by Scalia’s passing.
Because the GOP stands firm on thwarting every last thing Obama would even think about doing — it is their raison d'etre
And so this is how this country has been victimized by the GOP and their utter refusal to cooperate with a duly-elected president from the word GO.
What Obama wants:
Obama wrote that he's looking for three qualities: "A sterling record. A deep respect for the judiciary’s role. An understanding of the way the world really works. That’s what I’m considering as I fulfill my constitutional duty to appoint a judge to our highest court."
Obama sidestepped Republican senators who said they will not consider any nominee for the court's vacancy on Tuesday. Instead, he encouraged the Senate to "fulfill their constitutional duty."
"And as Senators prepare to fulfill their constitutional responsibility to consider the person I appoint, I hope they’ll move quickly to debate and then confirm this nominee so that the Court can continue to serve the American people at full strength," he wrote.
So of course they oppose Obama’s opportunity to HELP America by nominating a less-horrible person as a Supreme Court Justice.
No…. Scalia wasn’t even cold yet and the GOP was HOWLING about how Obama can’t choose a replacement because of yada, yada, yada.
“What you are seeing today in this Supreme Court situation is nothing more than the continuous and unprecedented obstructionism that President Obama has gone through” at the hands of Republicans, the Vermont senator said.
“This is on top of the birther issue, which we heard from Donald Trump and others, a racist effort to try to delegitimize the president of the United States,” Sanders continued.
When asked specifically if Donald Trump ‘is a racist’, Sanders side-stepped:
“You know, I’m not a psychoanalyst — and boy, would a psychoanalyst have an interesting time with Donald Trump,” he said, to laughter from the crowd. “I’m not going to speak to Trump, but do I think that at least in some parts of that Republican base there is race involved in that? Absolutely. Absolutely.”
Sanders is clearly a very clever man who is not letting himself get set up for stupid gotcha questions from the thing called the ‘US Media”. He seems rather savvy compared to their constant ham-handedness.
More from ABC News:
Bernie Sanders is slamming Senate Republicans for refusing to confirm a replacement for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia until a new president is elected.
Sanders is a Vermont senator running for the Democratic presidential nomination. He quips at a party dinner in Denver that GOP senators apparently believe the Constitution does not allow a Democratic president to nominate someone to replace Scalia.
There is a vast ocean of utter nonsense currently, known as the Primary War, in which all manner of false statement about candidates come from all sides about this or that. I try to stay out of it but it is like high-fructose corn syrup: it’s in EVERYTHING right now.
Those who do not want to see a Sanders presidency often try to saddle him with some sort of “ he is insensitive to race’ or words and ideas that are similar. There has even been whining that he ‘attacked Obama” or some similar nonsense.
Here Sanders comes out swinging in support of Obama and he makes the charge of racial motivation on behalf of the GOP, with which I totally agree.
Sanders is dead-on here: The GOP is simply rife with racism.
