When I chose to endorse Bernie Sanders for President in December, I did so before any votes were cast and the polls still showed an uphill battle for the Vermont Senator in his fight for nomination for President with Hillary Clinton. Choosing Senator Bernie Sanders for President was an easy choice for me as he was the right individual for the job of President of the United States of America.
Now, I have great respect for Hillary Clinton and have a simple disagreement on the issues and Mrs. Clinton’s approach to politics and getting things accomplished. While I will not lay the blame of failed (or successful) policies of her husband’s presidency at her feet, the team they surrounded Bill Clinton with during his presidency of triangulation is the same team advising and running Mrs. Clinton’s campaign today. A Presidency model that is not equipped to handle the issues and conflicts of the 21st century.
It’s time that we had new ideas and new leadership to carry us forward the next 4 or 8 years. You might say, how can a man who has been in Congress for 30 years and is 74-years old be full of new ideas and new leadership? Simple. Senator Sanders has been fighting for these issues for 30 years in Congress and another 20 years before that as a Mayor and activist. Senator Sanders has stood out in a Congress who has been bought and paid for through big money donations and legalized bribery, for not taking part in that pay-for-play system that is currently in place.
Senator Bernie Sanders has been right on issue after issue ever since he has started fighting these battles. Whether it’s been on the issue of Civil Rights where he stood, marched and was even arrested with protestors in the 60’s, Senator Sanders was right. Not for political gain, but because it was the right thing to do. On the issue of LGBT rights, Senator Sanders has been the biggest supporter of equal rights for ALL Americans, through marriage equality support before it was popular and through working on legislation that protected workers in the workplace. Senator Sanders did so because it was the right thing to do.
Time after time, Senator Sanders has been right on the threat of Global Warming as it not only threatens our great country but the entire world and the human race. Senator Sanders did so because it was the right thing to do.
Senator Sanders has been fighting the threat and destruction of income inequality long before it was on the radar of most Americans and media outlets. He understood that an economy can’t function if only a handful of millionaires and billionaires possessed all of the money. He understands that a society where a family sleeps in the car and goes hungry and are only two blocks away from a 10-room mansion that sits against a private golf course, cannot function. Senator Sanders fought on this issue because it was the right thing to do.
When it comes to healthcare in America, Senator Sanders never accepted that a procedure or medication in Canada would sometimes cost 1% of what we pay here in America. Senator Sanders has called for a single-payer healthcare system (Medicare-For-All) despite what the insurance lobby and their paid-off Republicans in Congress want. Senator Sanders understands that without health, we have nothing. He did so because it was the right thing to do.
The threat of an oligarchy in the United States has been a threat that Senator Sanders has been fighting against for 30 years, as he understands that our democracy cannot function if the power rests in the hands of only a handful of individuals. Senator Sanders understands the urgency of the threat that Citizens United poses to our country’s future and has made it a top priority as a Senator and will continue that fight as President. He understood this issue, not because it was easy to fight the 1% but because it was the right thing to do.
While we wind down a very successful Obama presidency that has seen unemployment dip below 5%, a rescuing of the auto industry, the killing of Bin Laden, a stock market through the roof, uninsured rates cut and deficits slashed, we must look to the candidate who will carry on this legacy and push forward on these ideas, not simply maintain them. If you were able to ask President Obama and listened to his interviews, the progress we have made has been great, but we need to do more. The person qualified to do more and advance America forward is Senator Bernie Sanders.
I endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for President on the issues and his vision for our country. I endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders because we need to strive for more, not settle for the status quo. I endorsed Bernie Sanders because he has been right time and time again for a simple reason; because it was the right thing to do.
I am Alex Singer, Congressional Candidate for House District 3 in Nevada (NV-03), and I endorsed Bernie Sanders for President because he is the right person for the job of President of the United States of America.
