What great accomplishment are we building off of? For profit insurance that costs more every single year? More people in prison? More people living in poverty? More people living right on the edge near poverty? Unprecedented amounts money thrown around during the electoral process?
Everything costs more today than it did 8 years ago, rent, food, medicine, education, yet wages are down. The middle class has actually shrunk, all the while the rich are richer than they have ever been.
The Middle Class, a popular figure in American folklore, died this week after a long battle with capitalism. Its passing has been expected since the recent death of its partner, The American Dream.
Over the course of close to a half century, the middle class has gone from the default position of most Americans to—officially, now—a minority status. The latest Pew Research Center figures, released yesterday, show that at long last the middle class is not the American majority any longer.
Please explain to me, what are we actually trying to do? Make things worse for average citizens, albeit incrementally.
