Theories abound about what motivated Black voters to turn out in unprecedented percentages to vote for HRC in the South Carolina primary. Explanations range all over the map, from ignorance of Sanders to explicit rejection of his program, from desire for a woman president to transferred loyalty to Bill Clinton.
One factor I have not seen much mentioned is what Hillary did after Obama won the nomination she thought was hers, and the White House. She, a white woman, took a subordinate position in a Black man's cabinet and served him loyally.
To most white folks here and maybe a lot of the youth, and to lefties like me who loathe what she actually did as Secretary of State, this may not seem particularly significant. To those who came up in the Jim Crow South, or recognize the persistence of its values to the present day, it was and remains a Big Fucking Deal. In that regard, that one time, she did the right thing.
