This guy named Obama was kind of quiet, chimed in a bit, and contributed a bit. Ms. Clinton was hated by the general Kos community but still showed up.
When she stood up on the stage she was greeted by a round of hisses and boos.
And when she held up her arms and said, “Bring it on!!!” I thought … hmmm.
She addressed the crowd. She knew these were folks who loved Howard Dean (me too). She didn’t back down.
The last “YearlyKos” convention in Chicago was in 2007. I dragged my Hillary Clinton supporting wife (now a serious Bernie Sanders supporter — we have no issues - and my 12 year old son, 8 year old daughter) to my first convention supporting politics in any way at that time.
P.S. My wife ended up working on the Obama campaign whole heartedly.
My son and I staked out a seat a couple of hours in advance to get front row seats to see Chris Dodd, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, Dennis Kucinich, Bill Richardson, this Obama guy, and Senator Clinton who showed up at the last minute. We’d gotten Howard Dean’s autograph on one of his posters earlier, and we were ready to listen (still have it). I remember seeing Wesley Clark talking to somebody on his cell phone while I was using the drinking fountain. I remember awkwardly hugging Markos (“who is this guy?”) and slinking away in fan boy embarrassment. Very cool. I’ve got pictures of me with Black Panthers, Jimmy Hoffa’s son, and John Edwards (yes, he was the guy I supported for President).
And this Ms. Clinton Lady. There were these breakout sessions. My son went to see Edwards; my wife saw Kucinich; the Obama tickets were screwed up at the last minute and I was stuck seeing Ms. Clinton. Some Boston Globe reporter interviewed me (never made the news) and we all listened to the First Lady/Senator person.
Was she awesome? Nope. Was she intelligent? Jaw droppingly. Was she genuine? Not much. Did she impress me? Were there planted questions? Maybe. But was she somebody who I could see as the President of the United States?
Yep.
Politics.
Howard Dean would have made a great President.
Mr. Obama MADE a great President.
Bernie Sanders is an awesome representative of all the things I love.
Yep.
