In short; let him get elected, then impeach him.
Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy, but this is the year of crazy, so bear with me as I lay this scenario out.
The epiphany came to me as I sat in Wendy’s and overheard two people talking about the election when one fellow said that “Trump is crazy and if he got elected, they would impeach him’. I first dismissed this eventuality as highly unlikely, as I couldn’t see his own party doing such a thing and just promoting Trump’s choice as Vice-President to the White House. Then I remembered the Presidential nominee does not automatically get to choose the VP candidate. The convention places names in nomination and then votes its choice, usually the Presidential nominee’s recommendation.
It follows that, at least in my mind, the very possible nomination of Donald Trump at the convention would be met with a strong desire to forbid him the selection of his own preferred candidate, presumably, another crazy. Accordingly, the GOP would then appoint a candidate of its own choosing such as a Paul Ryan or Marco Rubio.
Then, should the unlikely, but not impossible scenario of Trump actually ascending to the Presidency occur, I can envision the Republicans, soon afterwards, impeaching Trump at the first sign of disloyalty to the right wing cause on any sort of ‘trumped’ up charge. However, they would need the help of Democrats in voting for impeachment and conviction as not all Republicans would vote to impeach. Then some serious the wheeling and dealing would begin.
How could such a scenario possibly play out in that manner? In the movie ‘Plan 9 From Outer Space’ the visitor to Earth famously says, “..because all you of Earth are idiots.” This is true least in the Republican party. Therefore, I’m not going to rule out anything. The year of crazy is upon us.
