UPDATE: I included some additional information about aitchdee, as well as a question that she has to the community about transitioning from managed MediCal to “plain MediCal”.
Hi everyone, I’d like to provide an update on aitchdee’s situation.
Since the last diary on her situation, she has been able to get on SSDI. Yay!
She’s not out of the woods yet, though. The Sacramento County tax assessor's office will again attempt to auction her condo at the end of the month. I’ve been told that she will not be able to apply for low-income or subsidized housing until she has moved out of the condo — I don’t have first-hand knowledge, though, so I could be wrong. She believes that there is a 60% chance of the condo not selling, thus allowing her to continue to live there for another year, but that’s not guaranteed.
aitchdee also has rheumatoid arthritis (RA), which makes it difficult for her to be mobile for long periods of time. Compounding her situation is the difficulty of dealing with her managed care company, HealthNet MediCal — delayed/cancelled appointments, referrals not being provided in a timely fashion or getting lost, and so on. She is keen on finding out whether anyone has successfully detached themselves from a managed care company and ended up back on “plain MediCal” so that she can see a General Practitioner who will be able to help her. Any and all comments regarding this subject are most welcome!
If you can help at all, please read on to find out more. Every little thing counts — helping with groceries, getting around or keeping the lights and heat on. And if you have nothing to spare, please consider helping with recs, republishes, mention in open threads and social media shares and tweets, to help us reach others who might have more resources.
This is my first time writing a diary of this nature, so any and all feedback is appreciated!
The information below is copied from belinda ridgewood’s diary (the one linked to at the top of this diary). Thank you for posting, belinda!
How You Can Help aitchdee
If you have a PayPal account and have never used it to send money to anyone, it is really simple.
- Go to PayPal.com.
- Click Send Money to Family and Friends.
- Enter aitchdee's email address (which is twilithour@mac.com) and amount you are sending. The sender's name is visible to the recipient.
For those of us who can't deal with PayPal, she still has a GoFundMe page. They are much slower to release funds to her, so please use this only if you cannot use PayPal.

And if you prefer, she also has an Amazon wish list. If you buy from the wishlist, they can ship to her directly. If you'd like to send essentials not through Amazon, please kosmail aitchdee for her shipping address, and let her know what you're sending so she can take it off her wishlist manually.
AMAZON WISHLIST
If you'd like to send money and cannot deal with any means of doing so other than sending a paper check by USPS,
1) Please consider instead buying and mailing an inexpensive postal money order. aitchdee could cash these at any post office without a fee. Thanks to Most Awesome Nana for this idea!
2) If it needs to be a check, please kosmail aitchdee for her information. We list this choice last because she no longer has a bank account, so cashing the check costs her a fee of 10% of the check value. Nonetheless, it's more money than she'd have had otherwise, so if you need to use this method, of course she is very happy to have your help.
As always, recs, tips, republishes, mention in open threads, FB shares, and tweets also help bring more eyes to the diary and thus more potential help. Many, many thanks.
