The polls are pretty consistent with no big movement after the debate. Bernie’s smears appear to have worked. Now New Hampshire is full of White Progressives, many of whom have been reading about Bernie for decades as he has represented Vermont, which is New Hampshire’s closest neighbor.
I had hoped that people would be revolted by the constant negative campaigning. When Bernie’s followers heckled Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan, practically making a ruckus big enough to drown out the words of these two women who have done so much to make New Hampshire a better place to live and who have truly re-vitalized the Democratic Party in the state.
The vicious attacks on anyone, but especially women, put forth by the so-called “Bernie Bros. And this disgusting behavior is heaped upon Hillary and her family. The Bernie camp doesn’t care about Party Unity or protecting our achievements from the marauding Republicans. They act more like a ‘cult of personality than a political movement.
Hillary, having been toughened up by 25 years of Republican attacks, is able to shrug this off and stay focused on winning in November. She is as strong as she is smart, and while I’m a little bummed because of Bernie’s campaign having deployed a scorched earth strategy, she presses on. She is always polite and respectful to Bernie, even when that is not reciprocated.
I don’t know how anyone thinks they can win a primary this way, Since Bernie has until recently had his own party in Vermont all to himself, he might not understand the purpose of primaries. That would explain why he tried to drive President Obama out of office by running a primary campaign against him in 2012 even though Obama is widely considered one of our greatest Presidents. Of course, Bernie wasn’t a Democrat back then, so it probably makes sense if you think like Bernie does.
No matter how well Bernie does in New Hampshire. Whether he wins by 20 % or 30%, we still have to fight the good fight. Hillary’s truth will eventually defeat the lies and slander of her opponents. We need to hang in there and help get her message of improving medical care without throwing away everyone’s present insurance, she also wants to regulate all of Wall Street, not just the big banks, but the quasi banks as well. Hillary supports the rights of women to choose, LGBT Americans to not be discriminated against, protecting our environment, while also protecting our homeland, not just through war and the use of force, but through negotiation, and creating international coalitions, which she has been very good at. Hillary supports Fair Trade, not just Free Trade. She also wants to invite immigrants and refugees to our shores, which is the greatest legacy of America.
Despite her lifetime commitment to helping others, she is still reviled by many. That may be because she is a trailblazer, attempting to crash through the ultimate glass ceiling and into the Oval Office. I hope she stays strong and carrys on, as the British would say.
