I support Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders...and I am not ashamed to admit it. One reason is because she is tough. She can take a punch and keep on going particularly against Republicans. I also support Mrs Clinton because she has a teriffic resume. She has been a legislator, an activist and Secretary of State. She is an accomplished person. I also support her because she, is a she. It is important to me that we elect a woman to the presidency and that we do it now. For me, it's important. I have a 9 yo daughter and I want her to grow up with a woman in the White House. For me her gender is important.
However, the one thing I still cannot get past is her Iraq war vote. It is not mentioned much by the pundits but if she had voted against the Iraq war I believe she would have already served her 8 years in office. She has apologized and flogged herself for the vote but there are no takesy-backsies on that one. I do not think her vote on Iraq can be overstated in explaining her inability to catch fire with the base. It is a tough pill to swallow because for many in my party the Iraq was the moment in recent times that defined your political stripes. Many of us went all in opposing that war and at a time when it was the unsafe path to do so. Mrs Clinton took the hawkish stance and her vote showed us she is a neocon or that she just makes the most calculated political choice at every turn, neither one is good. The same can be said for TPP. What is her core???
Well, to me her core is women. She is flawed in many ways but I do believe she is fighter for women and families and yes, she is a fighter for Hillary Clinton...and that is ok. She is self interested, ok. So are many other candidates.
This may not come off as a glowing endorsement for HRC but I do endorse her, fully. I want to see her give a SOTU, nominate a Supreme Court justice, beat back Republicans and get things done at the same time. And I want to see a woman as commander in chief. I think she would be a great commander in chief...I hope her Iraq war vote will serve as a constant reminder for her to get it right the next time.
