Another day, another Trump supporter violently attacking a peaceful protestor at a Donald Trump rally. This time, the violent attack occurred at a North Carolina rally for Donald Trump. A group of peaceful protesters were being escorted out of their seats by police when a Trump supporter viciously sucker punched one of the men. Most incredibly, police tackled the protestor to the ground and did NOT arrest the man who threw the punches.
The Washington Post caught up with Rakeem Jones, the man who was attacked:
“Boom, he caught me,” Jones told The Washington Post in a telephone interview. “After I get it, before I could even gain my thoughts, I’m on the ground getting escorted out. Now I’m waking up this morning looking at the news and seeing me getting hit again.”
Jones said he and four friends — a “diverse” group that included a white woman, a Muslim, and a gay man, had gone to the rally as a “social experiment.” He said the woman with them started shouting once Trump’s speech began.
He went on to say everyone at the rally was shouting and they were in no way getting physical with Trump. He’s outraged police not only did nothing to help him, but they actually aggressively tackled the victim!
“It’s happening at all these rallies now and they’re letting it ride,” Jones said. “The police jumped on me like I was the one swinging.” He added: “My eye still hurts. It’s just shocking. The shock of it all is starting to set in. It’s like this dude really hit me and they let him get away with it. I was basically in police custody and got hit.”
Jones and others interviewed by the Washington Post also report that as soon as Trump started speaking, people began shouting at them to “get the f**k out of here!” and “Go home, n*****s!”
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s office has denied their officers were the ones who detained Jones. But, the in the video it appears the insignia on the sleeve is that of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office and the lead officer escorting the men out had a “Sheriff’s Office” shirt on. Both the Trump supporter who attacked and the officers involved need to be identified.
