Bernie Sanders campaign has announced that between the time the polls closed in Michigan Tuesday night and midnight Wednesday, he raised $5 million from 175,000 donors, which comes out to about $29 per person. Even his average donation is going up.
He is not going away, and neither are his supporters.
Every time someone tries to tell me to get in line behind Hillary Clinton, it makes me want to give him even more money.
It also makes me wonder if anyone remembers how Hillary sure as hell didn’t get in line behind Barack Obama, even when it was impossible for her to overcome his delegate lead in 2008. Remember? She kept saying something would happen, like when Bobby Kennedy got shot when he was trying to win the Democratic nomination for President. Remember that?
She said maybe the SuperDelegates would come to her rescue and give her the win. Remember that?
And now, we’re supposed to get in line behind her?
No way.
Traditional candidates get out of the race because their money dries up. Bernie’s money isn’t drying up. He will continue to be heard. So will his supporters.
From the Detroit Free-Press: Turnout close to 40% statewide, shattered records with more than 2.5 million people voted. How did he win?
- 70% of voters by exit polls were angry of dissatisfied with the federal government. Bernie won them.
-He won among voters who said they wanted a candidate who “cares about them”
-He won overwhelmingly (80%) with people who wanted a candidate who is honest.
-Bernie also won 81% of the voters age 18-29, who made up 21% of the electorate.
-He got 55% of those age 30-44, who made up 25% of those voting.
-He won with men.
-He won with Independents.
The stat that stands out most to me — voters who said honesty was the most important quality in a candidate. Among those voters, only 19% voted for Hillary. And Hillary has lost the honesty voters again and again during this primary season.
How the hell can we win with a candidate who even voters in Democratic primaries think isn’t telling them the truth? That’s not me bashing Hillary. That’s Democratic voters bashing her. They think Bernie’s the one who’s honest, not her.
